A consultation with a Neurologist takes 30-60 min not including wait times. Please bring your BC Service's card and a list of all of the medication you are taking.
Unfortunately, due to the complicated nature of our patients' diagnoses, sometimes clinics can run late. Please plan a sufficient amount of time for your appointment.
*If your Neurologist orders an investigation (e.g. MRI, CT, EEG,...), they will review the results and determine whether a follow up appointment is required or when the next follow up appointment will be. Patients may contact their family doctor for results before their next follow up appointment.
Electromyography (EMG) measures muscle response or electrical activity in response to a nerve's stimulation of the muscle. The test is used to help detect neuromuscular abnormalities. During the test, one or more small needles (also called electrodes) are inserted through the skin into the muscle. To prepare for this exam, please wear loose clothing (e.g. short sleeve shirt and shorts).
MRI is a medical imaging technique that creates detailed images of the organs and tissues in your body. If your Neurologist orders a MRI, you may be notified of the appointment date/time once our office receives them from the hospital. The hospital may contact the patient directly for an appointment. You are required to confirm your MRI appointment directly with the hospital MRI department. Please note: wait times may vary as each case is triaged by the hospital MRI department based on urgency.
An EEG is a test that detects abnormalities in your brain waves or in the electrical activity of your brain. If your Neurologist orders an EEG, you will be notified directly by the hospital once an appointment can be given.
Computed tomography (CT) scan uses a series of X-rays and a computer to produce a 3D image of soft tissues and bones. If your Neurologist orders a CT scan, you will be notified of the appointment date/time once our office receives them from the hospital. The hospital may contact the patient directly for an appointment. Please note: wait times may vary as each case is triaged by the hospital Radiology department based on urgency.
